Three mountain rescue teams rescued a walker who injured his leg while trying to climb Scafell Pike in Cumbria.

Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said the rescue mission took ten hours and 40 minutes, starting at 1.32am on Sunday (14th December).

The situation was made worse by torrential rain and strong winds with speeds of up 60mph.

An amber weather warning for rain was in place.

Mountain rescuers located the man on Lingmell Col and managed to bring him down to his two uninjured friends on a stretcher.

He was advised to be checked over in hospital.

An experienced rescuer said it was "the wettest he had ever seen Scarfell Pike".

One of the team members also slipped and injured his knee.
