Investigation launched after woman raped in Whitehaven

Detectives are appealing for information as part of an investigation into a report of rape in Castle Park, Whitehaven in the early hours of Sunday morning (17 August).

Police were contacted at 2:32am.

The victim, a female is receiving support from specialist officers and partners.

Detectives are in the early stages of the investigation and are appealing to anyone who was in the area between 1:25am and 2:30am to contact police.

There will be a police presence in the area whilst officers conduct their investigations.

A cordon is in place at Castle Park and the public are asked to avoid the area at this time whilst investigative work is being conducted.
