Kendal Leisure Centre in Cumbria is gearing up to host the second edition of the Golden Age Games, an event dedicated to celebrating active ageing.

Scheduled for Thursday, 28th May, the Games will feature a dynamic programme designed to promote movement, connection, and well-being in later life.

Building on the success of last year’s inaugural event, GLL, the charitable social enterprise that operates eight Better leisure centres in Westmorland and Furness, will welcome 75 participants from Kendal, Penrith, and Ulverston leisure centres for an action-packed day.

The day will commence with a welcome and warm-up session at 10.30am, followed by two rounds of sporting challenges.

Participants will have the option to choose two sports activities: Boccia, Curling, Pickleball, or Table Tennis.

At 12.30pm, attendees will enjoy a leisurely lunch break before getting back to the excitement.

Afternoon activities are set to include sports day games such as egg pong, basketball, corn hole, beanbag balance relay, javelin, newspaper shuffle, skittles, and the classic egg and spoon race.

The day will conclude with an awards ceremony at 3.00pm, recognising participants' achievements and contributions.

An opportunity for interviews will be available with Danielle Vipond Shields, Better Health and Communities Manager, and participants, including a longstanding member who has been part of Kendal Leisure Centre for 30 years.

Organisers urge those interested in covering the event to attend, emphasising the importance of fostering community connections through engaging and accessible activities.

The Golden Age Games aim not only to celebrate fitness but also to highlight the social and community aspects of active ageing, encouraging participants to stay connected and vibrant in later life.
