Inquest opened into death of Great-Grandmother struck by motorbike in Cumbria
75-year-old Gillian Moreen died while crossing the road with a grandchild
AN inquest has been opened — and suspended — into the death of a great-grandmother who tragically died after she was struck by a motorbike close to her Cleator Moor home.
Cumbria coroner court, sitting in Workington, heard this morning (tues) how 75-year-old Gillian Moreen Livingstone, of Ennerdale Road, lost her life after she suffered “significant injuries” in a collision which occurred while she was crossing the road with a grandchild.
Born in Pretoria, South Africa, Mrs Livingstone as a retired bank worker who was married to David, a retired chief technician.
Mrs Livingstone died at the scene of the collision, on Ennerdale Road, which occurred at around 4-25pm on Tuesday, 26th May.
Area Cumbria coroner Ms Margaret Taylor formally opened an inquest her death, and said: “Due to ongoing police enquiries I am suspending the inquest into Mrs Gillian Livingstone’s death. A decision upon resumption will be made following the completion of police enquiries.”
The grandchild was taken to hospital having suffered a serious head injury.
In a tribute to Mrs Livingstone, relatives described the mother, grandmother and great grandmother as the “matriarch of the family”. “She was the focal point for information, guidance, advice and caring. She will be greatly missed by the whole family and leaves a huge void to fill,” they said.
*A 22-year-old man from Egremont has been charged with causing Mrs Livingstone’s death by driving a motorcycle dangerously — and while unlicensed and uninsured; and causing serious injury to the child by driving dangerously.
He is next due to appear at Carlisle Crown Court on Friday, 26th June, and has been granted conditional bail in the meantime.
