Appeal for witnesses after teenage boy dies in Dumfries

Police in Dumfries are seeking information following the death of a teenager near the Boathouse on Nith Avenue.

A 16-year-old boy, named as Kenzie Carmichael from Dumfries, was pronounced dead after emergency services attended the scene at approximately 7:35 PM on Wednesday, 26th August 2026.

According to Detective Inspector Scott Wilson, Kenzie's family and friends are devastated by his death and are looking for answers.

Detective Inspector Scott Wilson said: "Kenzie's family and friends are devastated and it's vital we get them answers for how he died. We do not believe the circumstances of this incident are suspicious or that Kenzie, or anyone else present, had been playing within the river."

Information Appeal

Police are urging anyone present around the Boathouse on the evening of the incident to come forward, regardless of the perceived significance of their information.

Detective Inspector Scott Wilson continued: "I am appealing to anyone who was in the area of the Boathouse on Wednesday evening to contact us, no matter how insignificant you think your information may be; please do pass it on. It could be crucial in helping us establish the full circumstances of Kenzie's death."

A report regarding the incident has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.
