Residents in Whitehaven are being given the chance to have their say on the future of the town's growth.

Cumberland Council has reached out to businesses and residents to attend a drop-in event which will take place on August 5th.

The results of the consultation will inform the town's "masterplan" for growth, and those who have ideas or concerns can see the first steps for what the town can develop into.

Speaking on the plans, Cumberland Council are keen to gather a wide array of opinions on what the town is needing, and how residents and businesses in the area can benefit the most.

Deputy Leader of Cumberland Council, Cllr Emma Williamson said: "We are working on a vision and masterplan for the future of Whitehaven town centre, but we can’t do it without the involvement and input of local residents and businesses. Help us shape the future of the town.

“Whether you are a local resident, worker, business owner, or visitor, we want to understand what you feel Whitehaven town centre needs to make it a better place to live, work, shop and visit.

“We want to build on the positive steps already taken to improve the town centre and we’re putting in place a clear timeline to turn local priorities into action.

“It’s not just about buildings or infrastructure, but about community, belonging, and a sense of pride in Whitehaven.

"This is just the beginning of a longer conversation. So, get involved and play your part.”

Part of the masterplan will look at the energising of different sectors of the town, such as the harbour, as well as revitalising the town centre and its rich history.

Cumberland Council said the plan would look to help create a "thriving, sustainable Whitehaven that celebrates its history while embracing a dynamic future".
