Stagecoach confirms bus that caught on fire in Cumbria was out of service

No passengers were onboard during the incident

Emergency services were called to the A595 near Distington on Thursday afternoon (23 October) after a bus caught fire.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service were mobilised at 3.48pm, sending three fire engines from Workington, Whitehaven and Frizington fire stations to the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to extinguish the blaze and remained in attendance for around two hours.

Fortunately, no passengers were on board at the time as the bus was out of service. Cumbria Police assisted with traffic management while the incident was brought under control.

A Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire spokesperson said:

“We can confirm that one of our vehicles was involved in an incident on Thursday afternoon on the A595 near Parton, West Cumbria. The bus was out of service at the time and no passengers were on board. An internal investigation is under way to establish the cause, and we are liaising closely with Cumbria Police.”

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service has thanked Cumbria Police for their support in helping ensure the incident was dealt with safely.
