A Carlisle woman has been banned from entering several shops in the city after police secured a five-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) against her for repeated shoplifting.

Danielle Nicholson, 36, of Mayfield Avenue, was handed the order yesterday (29 September) at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court following multiple offences targeting local businesses.

Under the terms of the CBO, Nicholson is prohibited from entering any store that is part of the Carlisle Shop Watch Scheme. She is also banned from entering the Co-op on Central Avenue and the Co-op in Denton Holme.

PC Daniel Fisher of Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team welcomed the order, saying: “Nicholson has shown little regard for the rule of law and will now have the conditions imposed on her for a period of five years.

"I hope this order goes some way in showing retailers and those who choose to set up businesses in Carlisle that your Neighbourhood Team will continue to show a contempt for criminality to support our wider aims of keeping our communities safe for all who choose to live and work here.

“Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing Team will continue to target those who look to cause anti-social behaviour and criminality in our estates and centres.”

Breaching the conditions of a CBO is a criminal offence and can result in arrest. Offenders face a maximum penalty of five years in prison.

Importantly, Nicholson does not need to commit theft inside a store to be in breach of the order—simply entering a prohibited premises would be enough.

The action forms part of Operation Enhance and supports the wider Safer Streets Summer campaign, which focuses on improving public safety across the city.
