Cumbria Police has caught the same man drink-driving, for the third time this year.
Roads Policing Unit officers stopped a car on the A590 near Haverthwaite on Wednesday night (8 Oct).
The driver, Scott Faulkner, 50, of no fixed address, but previously of Salford and Dalton-in-Furness, was discovered to be a disqualified driver, after two recent drink-drive convictions – one in June and one in August. On both occasions he was found to be more than double the legal alcohol limit.
In addition, he was driving as only a provisional license-holder.
Suspecting he may be driving while over the limit again, officers conducted a roadside breath test, which returned a reading of 121 – the legal limit being 35.
The driver was arrested. Custody tests also returned readings well in excess of double the drink-drive limit.
Faulkner was charged with drink driving, disqualified driving and driving without insurance.
He appeared before Barrow Magistrates’ Court via video-link from Kendal police station’s custody suite yesterday afternoon (9 October), where he admitted all three offences.
Taking into account his previous convictions for drink-driving, he was remanded in custody, until sentencing on 30 October 2025 at Barrow Magistrates’ Court.
Cumbria Police says it continues to prioritise road safety by targeting dangerous drivers and dangerous driver behaviour, including via Operation Colossus, which targets antisocial behaviour including on the roads – and Operation Spotlight, a dedicated national road safety operation, which runs throughout the year.
In addition, Cumbria Police’s Roads Policing Unit is targeting dangerous drivers every day of the year, across the county.
