Cumberland bus services affected by Women's Tour of Britain cycle race
The opening stage of the race starts and ends in Cockermouth tomorrow
On Wednesday 19th August, bus passengers in Cumberland should be ready for changes as the Women's Tour of Britain rides through town.
A rolling programme of road closures will keep riders and spectators safe, causing some bus routes to change.
The race will start and finish in Cockermouth, looping through west and north Cumberland, hitting places like Whitehaven, Workington, Maryport, and Aspatria.
For services X4, X5, and 600 in Cockermouth, different bus stops will be in use. From 9am to 11.30am, buses will stop at Crown Street near Aldi, while different arrangements apply outside these times, utilising Fairfield Junior School stops on Sullart Street as well.
Signs will direct passengers to the correct spots.
Service changes include shifts to departure times and routes for Service 60, 400, 554, 600, and the local C123 Cockermouth Town Service, which will not run that day. Service 68 will use temporary stops.
Overall, expect delays of 15 to 20 minutes as some roads close for short periods to let riders through, reopening quickly once safe. Road closures are from about 10.40am to 4.30pm.
Special setups in Cockermouth accommodate the race's start and finish, with multiple streets closed at varying times.
The race rolls through towns at different hours, starting in Whitehaven and ending in Cockermouth in the afternoon.
Anyone travelling by bus should check for updates and allow extra travel time.
Parking is available throughout town, with overflow spots at Cockermouth Rugby Club for those coming to watch.
