This year, Education and Enforcement Officer Ellie Rourke has been shortlisted as a finalist for the Education and Enforcement Excellence Award at the Keep Britain Tidy Network Awards 2026.

The awards and conference bring together over 100 decision-makers responsible for England’s streets and green spaces, including local authorities, housing associations, and major landowners.

Ellie’s nomination recognises her exceptional work in the Lake District National Park, particularly addressing the challenges of wild camping during a period of unprecedented demand. Her efforts have not only led to convictions but also raised Cumberland’s profile in national media, highlighting the complex issues facing the region.

A standout aspect of Ellie’s work has been her pioneering approach to restorative justice in Ennerdale and Thirlmere. Her creativity, bold ideas, and consistent delivery of impactful messages exemplify professional excellence.

Cumberland Councillor Denise Rollo, Executive Member for Sustainable, Resilient and Connected Places, said:

“Ellie’s dedication and innovative approach have made a real difference in protecting our beautiful landscapes. Her work not only addresses immediate challenges but also sets a benchmark for how enforcement and education can go hand in hand. We are incredibly proud to see her achievements recognised nationally.”

The council applauds all local environmental champions and is proud to see their work acknowledged at a national level.
