Carlisle United appoint Rob Elliot as new head coach
The former Newcastle United goalkeeper joins the Blues after leaving Gateshead
Carlisle United have appointed former Newcastle United goalkeeper Rob Elliot as the club’s new head coach.
The 40-year-old joins the Blues after leaving National League side Gateshead, where he guided the club to an FA Trophy win at Wembley and helped them avoid relegation during a difficult spell last season.
This news follows on from the departure of previous head coach Mark Hughes today (28 May).
Elliot will arrive at Brunton Park on a rolling contract and starts work on Friday 29 May.
Elliot said he wants Carlisle to play “attacking, aggressive football” and hopes fans will enjoy watching a team that “gives absolutely everything for the badge”.
He also praised the club’s ambitions, saying "Carlisle is a one club city and that matters.
"I know what it feels like when a football club is at the heart of a city, how important it is that the team represent the fans, people and the community."
Carlisle United chairman Tom Piatak said Elliot "has energy, drive and a clear sense of how he wants his teams to play.
“He understands the importance of winning, but also the importance of building something with purpose."
