Man jailed after chasing and sexually assaulting girl in Carlisle underpass
Balazs Boros was sentenced to nine months in prison
A man has been jailed after sexually assaulting a teenage girl in a Carlisle underpass.
Balazs Boros, 23, of no fixed address, was sentenced on Thursday 2nd October at Carlisle Crown Court to nine months in prison for sexual assault.
The case relates to an incident on 1st September 2026, when Boros chased a teenage girl through the underpass on Hardwicke Circus before assaulting her over her clothes.
The victim managed to run away from Boros, Cumbria Police said.
Detective Constable Sophie Harkness, of Cumberland CID, described it as "a serious and deeply distressing offence", and praised the bravery shown by the victim in reporting what happened.
"Our priority has been to thoroughly investigate the circumstances, secure the evidence needed to bring the offender to justice and ensure the victim received appropriate support throughout the process," DC Harkness said.
"Reporting sexual offences can be daunting, but victims and survivors do not have to face it alone," she said.
"We encourage anyone who has been affected to come forward and speak with us. You will be listened to, treated with respect and supported throughout," DC Harkness said.
"Our officers work closely with specialist partners to ensure victims receive the care, advice and support they need from the moment they come forward," she said.
Anyone who has experienced rape or a sexual offence is encouraged to report it to police by calling 101, reporting online via the Cumbria Police website, or by calling 999 in an emergency.
Victims can also seek support and advice from specialist organisations if they are not yet ready to speak directly to police, including The Bridgeway's 24/7 support helpline on 0330 223 0099.
