Car passenger air lifted to hospital after collision with HGV on M6 near Wigton

A person has been air-lifted to hospital with life-threatening injuries after a two-vehicle collision on the M6 in Cumbria.

Officers say a Seat Tarraco and HGV collided near junction 41 at around 1.12pm today (7th April).

The rear seat passenger of the Seat was taken to hospital via air ambulance.

He remains in a critical condition.

The driver of the Seat was uninjured, whilst two others in the car suffered minor injuries.

The southbound carriageway was closed between J41 (Catterlen) and J40 (Penrith) until 7pm.

Officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to call 101 quoting incident number 99 of 7 April 2026.
