Barrow AFC moves training to Tameside Stadium for upcoming season
Club relocates to Curzon Ashton's base to optimise training and player care
Barrow AFC has announced the relocation of its first team training operations to Tameside Stadium, the home of Curzon Ashton, in preparation for the 2026/27 season.
This strategic move, involving the guidance of new manager Adam Murray, follows an exhaustive review process on various facilities, ultimately selecting Tameside Stadium for its superior environment to support the team’s needs.
Key factors in the decision
Central to the decision was the high quality of the playing surfaces at Tameside Stadium. The agreement guarantees access to the main grass pitch, while an upgraded artificial surface promises to aid in managing player loading and reducing injury risks throughout the season.
The decision was backed by Head of Medical Mark Leather, emphasizing the importance of maintaining player fitness, which is crucial in modern football.
The move also holds strategic value, allowing Barrow AFC to retain its Manchester training base—key from both recruitment and operational perspectives.
Facilities and environment
Beyond the pitches, the club will benefit from robust on-site facilities including designated eating and recovery areas, staff workspaces, and cabins that offer a consistent base for players and staff across the season.
Manager Adam Murray expressed his confidence in the move, saying: “The quality of both the grass and astro surfaces was a major factor in the decision. Having guaranteed access to the stadium pitch is really important, while the astro gives us a high-quality training surface that can help us manage player loading properly across the week.”
Chairman Paul Hornby also offered his thanks to FC United of Manchester for their support over past seasons and highlighted that the move represents a natural progression for Barrow AFC.
Fans can look forward to further updates, including visuals and behind-the-scenes content from the club’s new training base during pre-season, as preparations kick off for the new campaign.
