Accidental fire at Barrow crematorium damages roof

The roof of a crematorium in Barrow has been damaged after an accidental fire started.

Emergency services were called out to Thorncliffe Crematorium on Devonshire Road at 19:53 on Thursday 26th March.

They receieved reports of smoke coming from the building.

Six fire appliances from Barrow, Ulverston, Walney and Millom worked to put out the fire.

The fire has been ruled accidental.

A Cumbria Fire and Rescue spokesperson said “We appreciate this will be a difficult and upsetting time for those affected. Our thoughts are with those families impacted, and we thank the public for their patience and understanding.”
