With post-Christmas sales underway, West Midlands Police are urging shoppers to be extra cautious online as fraudsters look to exploit bargain hunters.

Detective Constable Rachel Hensley from the Economic Crime Unit said: “The post-Christmas period is a prime target for online scammers.

"With millions of people hunting for discounted goods, criminals use fake websites, phishing emails, and social media posts to deceive unsuspecting shoppers. If you suspect fraud, report it immediately.”

The force advise shoppers to double-check website addresses, look for secure payment methods, and be wary of deals that seem too good to be true.

They also recommend using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, keeping devices updated, and regularly checking bank statements for unauthorised transactions.

“By staying alert and following these steps, shoppers can protect themselves and their finances while enjoying the sales,” added DC Hensley.
