"We still can't believe he's gone": One year since Keaton Slater tragically died in a hit-and-run
Bikers will be gathering in Coventry today for a memorial ride out in honour of Keaton Slater
The parents of a Coventry boy who died in a hit and run say they're still struggling to come to terms with the loss of their son.
It comes as today marks one year since Keaton Slater died in a hit-and-run on Radford Road in Coventry, June 2024.
Keaton was hit by a black BMW, which West Midlands Police believe was travelling at 80mph along Radford Road.
The suspect behind the wheel is thought to be Dolars Aleksanders who is wanted on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving but the 21-year-old is believed to be in Latvia.
Since Keaton's death, his parents Louise and Clint Slater have campaigned to extradite the suspect who fled to Latvia; they have also campaigned for greater road safety.
Louise told us what the past year has been like for the family: "Keaton was absolutely amazing, since he's gone the house has been so quiet without him.
"Everyday it's like it happened yesterday, we still haven't got justice and I just want my baby back."
Today bikers will be gathering together on a special ride out across Coventry in memory of Keaton.
Louise said the community support has been so strong over the past year: "When he first passed you feel so empty and alone but when the community show their support you feel loved."
Clint continued to share the importance of today's memorial ride out: "We're doing this for Keaton and we want to make sure his memory always stays alive."
Next month, on July 12th, the Slater's will also be hosting Keaton's Day which will celebrate the 12 year old's life.
People across Coventry are invited to the event at Coventrians RFC which will have DJs and fun activities throughout the day.
The £1 entry fee will go towards charities which have supported the family this year.
