As the Christmas dinner preparations are underway, Warwickshire County Council are urging people to be sustainable this Christmas.

Whilst our eyes may be bigger than our stomachs when we’re Christmas shopping, it is important to be mindful about food waste.

It is estimated that five million Christmas puddings and mince pies go to waste each year in the UK, according to Business Waste Management.

In response, Warwickshire County Council have shared three top tips on how reduce food waste this Christmas.

Councillor Heather Timms said we can tackle food waste through three simple steps: “Plan what you are going to eat, eat seasonally and make the most of your leftovers.”

This Christmas, Warwickshire County Council are advocating their ‘Love Food. Hate Waste’ campaign.

Councillor Timms told us more: “The campaign has got lots of ideas for holiday leftovers and guidelines on food waste collection in Warwickshire.

“We urge people to use their food waste collection bin this Christmas.

“Or if you can compost at home or if you have a green waste collection in other areas of Warwickshire, then use that.”
