VE Day Commonwealth concert is coming to Coventry
To mark the 80th anniversary of VE Day, the Commonwealth War Graves Commission (CWGC) is launching the For Evermore Tour in Coventry
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission launches a nationwide tour this Friday (May 2nd) at Coventry Cathedral.
The tour will begin with a concert at the Cathedral which marks the start of the Commission’s ‘For Evermore Tour’, an interactive mobile exhibition that will travel across the UK as part of commemorative events for VE-Day.
The Commonwealth War Graves Torch for Peace will also be part of commemorative events, an enduring symbol of peace and the importance of passing down the legacy of commemoration to future generations.
After starting its journey in Coventry, it will lead the procession on Whitehall on VE-Day, before travelling to Buckingham Palace and continuing to sites around the UK and then the world, passed between generations to honour the legacy of those who gave their lives.
Megan Maltby is the public engagement manager for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
Megan says: "We're really excited to be here in Coventry, it was the perfect location to bring our mobile exhibition to, with the concert kickstarting the tour here tonight.
"People in Coventry are really keen to come and see the exhibition and engage with stories from the Second World War and we really want people to share their stories.
"Memories from the war have never been more important than they are now and we want to make sure the stories are passed through the generations."
