Teenager arrested after Bradley Lowery taunt at Coventry match
The incident happened during Saturday's Premier League match between Coventry City and Sunderland
Police have arrested and bailed a 14-year-old boy on suspicion of a public order offence after he was seen taunting Sunderland fans about Bradley Lowery.
The incident happened during Saturday's Premier League match between Coventry City and Sunderland, where social media footage showed a Coventry fan holding up a photo of Bradley Lowery, who touched the hearts of football fans before dying from childhood cancer in 2017.
West Midlands Police stated: “A teenage boy arrested on suspicion of a public order offence in Coventry has been bailed with conditions.”
Bradley's mother, Gemma Lowery, spoke out through the Bradley Lowery Foundation, urging the public not to target the teenage boy or his family.
She said mocking her late son is hurtful and stressed the importance of remembering Bradley with love rather than hate.
Coventry City Football Club acknowledged the footage and emphasised its intolerance of offensive behaviour, confirming collaboration with authorities to decide on appropriate measures.
Police have communicated the outrage and upset caused within the community to Bradley's family and are working closely with both football clubs.
