Support group in Warwickshire can continue to help new parents thanks to new funding
Project Matrescence in Warwickshire has secured funding to continue free support groups until 2028
A mother support group in Warwickshire has received a six figure funding to continue their project for another three years.
Project Matrescence provides six week workshops for new parents who are six to twelve months post partum. The sessions focus on mental health support alongside local mothers connecting with one another.
Due to the funding the sessions can remain free for parents wanting to take part in the sessions. We've been speaking with Helen Davis, accredited psychologist at Project Matrescence who has been sharing what the sessions entail.
Helen says: "We're a therapeutic community group which allows mums to come together to explore what they might be experiencing with themselves and with other mothers.
"There are lots of creative tasks from play work, drawing, poetry. There are also discussions and we provide a creche for anyone that requires childcare support free of charge."
Helen continued to share why it is important for mothers to receive support after pregnancy and how Project Matrescence helps.
Helen says: "There's a lot of care given to babies and children but not a lot of support is given to the parents and anything that we can do to support them, I think is a great thing.
"It can be really tough time of life and it can be hugely isolating. We know that mothers supporting mothers in a shared space can be so beneficial and that's what we aim to provide."
