A rail research organisation in Dudley has gone into administration.

BCIMO also runs the Very Light Rail National Innovation Centre.

The not-for-profit Research and Technology Organisation described themselves as 'a unique, world-class centre for rail innovation based in Dudley in the West Midlands'.

They owned a £32m multi-purpose centre, which promised a range of hireable facilities including a Rail Development and Test Site, Engineering Laboratories and Equipment, Meeting and Event Spaces and Serviced Offices and Meeting Rooms.

It's thought a funding shortage is behind the move - but it's reported that this latest development will have no impact on the wider VLR project in Coventry.

And it's being reported that options to sell the business, and keep the brand alive, are now being pursued.

In a statement on their website, the administrators said: "On 1 July 2025, Deviesh Raikundalia and Tyrone Courtman, both of RSM UK Restructuring Advisory LLP, were appointed Joint Administrators of the Company.

"Deviesh Raikundalia and Tyrone Courtman are both licensed to act as Insolvency Practitioners in the UK by the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales. Insolvency Practitioners are bound by the Insolvency Code of Ethics when carrying out all professional work relating to an insolvency appointment.

"Please note that Joint Administrators act as agents of the Companies.

"The affairs, business and property of the Companies are being managed by the Joint Administrators who act as agents of the Company and without personal liability."
