New powers proposed to tackle anti-social behaviour in Coventry
A new three-year order could bring tighter controls on e-scooters, loud music and intimidating behaviour
Coventry City Council is looking at new measures aimed at tackling anti-social behaviour and improving safety in the city centre.
Cabinet is due to consider an updated Public Space Protection Order on 1 September, following a public consultation in which 85 per cent of respondents supported renewing the order.
Current restrictions on activities including busking, cycling, e-bikes and e-scooters would remain, while additional controls could be introduced on amplified music and temporary structures such as gazebos and stalls.
The proposals would also give officers greater powers to deal with behaviour that causes harassment, alarm or distress, including aggressive approaches for money or donations.
The council has recently added six Community Wardens to its team, with the aim of increasing visibility and supporting enforcement in the city centre.
If approved, the new order would take effect on 21 November and last for three years.
