Hawkesbury Lodge to offer residential care for adults with complex mental health needs
A new mental health rehabilitation service is set to open at Hawkesbury Lodge in Coventry, offering specialist support for adults across Coventry and Warwickshire.
The 14-bed service, developed by Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust, aims to reduce reliance on out-of-area placements and deliver consistent rehabilitation care closer to home.
Adults with severe or long-term mental health conditions will receive tailored support to regain independence and develop necessary living skills.
The initiative follows an NHS England review that highlighted the demand for local rehabilitation services due to disruptive out-of-area placements.
National guidance stresses the importance of fostering independence rather than solely relying on inpatient care.
New Development
Originally an inpatient unit, Hawkesbury Lodge has been transformed following a successful NHS England refurbishment bid in 2025.
The modern residential environment supports recovery and includes a co-located Care Hub for enhanced community enablement.
Rethink Mental Illness has been chosen to operate the service, with opening planned for October 2026.
Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership NHS Trust will ensure quality and clinical oversight.
Viral Kantaria, Chief Integration Officer at the Trust, emphasised the milestone the development represents in providing care closer to home for the local community.
Mark Yates, Chief Operating Officer at Rethink Mental Illness, expressed excitement over the partnership, highlighting their extensive experience in community mental health services.
Both leaders stressed the service's commitment to supporting recovery and promoting independence.
