Warwickshire County Council is launching a new Industry Exchange Service to strengthen links between construction businesses and education providers.

The scheme, developed through the Warwickshire Skills Hub, aims to tackle skills shortages and ensure students are being taught the latest construction methods, technologies and practices.

Councillor Rob Howard, Warwickshire County Council Portfolio Holder for Economy and Rural Development, said: "A skilled workforce is essential to the future success of Warwickshire's construction sector and the wider economy.

"This new Industry Exchange Service will help strengthen the relationship between employers and education providers, ensuring learners are developing the skills, knowledge and experience that businesses need both now and in the future."

Local employers will work with colleges to share industry knowledge through guest teaching, workshops, demonstrations and professional development for teaching staff.

The initiative follows concerns over an ageing workforce and a growing skills gap in the construction sector.

It will also give businesses a greater role in shaping the future workforce and creating pathways into construction careers.

Paul Joyce, Deputy Principal at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, said: “We are pleased to be taking part in the Warwickshire Industry Exchange Service for Construction.

"Working more closely with employers will help ensure our learners and teaching staff remain connected to the latest industry practice, technology and expectations, creating stronger pathways into construction careers across Warwickshire.”
