New accommodation to support vulnerable women in Stratford-on-Avon
Dedicated facility aims to provide safe housing and support for women moving towards independent living
Stratford-on-Avon District Council has invested in a new women-only accommodation scheme designed to support women who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
The development will provide self-contained accommodation with ensuite bathrooms and kitchenettes, creating a dedicated facility for women in need of housing support.
The scheme has been introduced in response to demand for specialist accommodation across the district. Council figures show there were 1,075 homelessness approaches during the 2025/26 financial year, including 688 from single-person households.
Of those single applicants, 283 were women, accounting for around 41 per cent of the total. During the same period, 73 single female households required accommodation, while 14 were living in temporary accommodation.
The new facility is intended to provide a bridge between emergency housing and fully independent living. Residents will be offered self-contained accommodation alongside support services aimed at helping them maintain tenancies and improve their wellbeing.
The council said the scheme is part of its wider efforts to increase housing options for people experiencing homelessness and to provide accommodation tailored to specific needs.
Cllr Liz Coles, Portfolio Holder for Housing, Revenues and Customer Services, said: "This investment demonstrates our commitment to tackling homelessness and ensuring that everyone in our District has access to safe and suitable accommodation.
"We know that a significant proportion of people who come to us for help are women, and that there is a gap in provision for those who need a secure, self-contained space and we know that some women feel safer in women only spaces.
"This scheme provides exactly that, a safe, supportive environment where women can regain stability and independence. It is about giving people the foundation they need to rebuild their lives with dignity and confidence."
