Measures in place across Coventry to keep people safe on New Year's Eve

Coventry Business Improvement District are behind keeping people safe throughout the day and night.

There's set to be a number of safety measures in place across Coventry over New Year's Eve to make sure people have a good and safe night out.

It's been organised by Coventry Business Improvement District, along with partners and West Midlands Police.

It's set to be one of the busiest nights of the year for hospitality venues.

Coventry BID have put taxi marshals, night time patrols, spiking initiatives and 'ask for Angela' in place to ensure everyone is safe throughout the day and night.

Joanne Glover is the Chief Executive, she said: "We're expecting the city to be really buzzing in the city centres. People join us to bring the in New Year, so we've put in place with this year some taxi marshals.

"Indefinitely that these are in place and basically they're helping people to get home safely.

"Making sure that the cab drivers are safe. If there's any antisocial behaviour. Are making sure people aren't pushing and shoving, just making sure that everybody gets home safely.

"We've also got night-time economy street patrol out in the evenings on Friday and Saturday nights, but we've also invested putting them in into the hot nights.

"New Year's Eve Black Friday, all those type of areas. We've done a huge incentive for the night time economy business is on anti spy chem.

"So we've given out some strips spiking strips in case venues feel that somebody may have been."

Coventry BID are urging anyone who is a victim of a crime or see's something suspicious to find a police officer or members of their team to report it.
