A 74-year-old man who ignored medical advice not to drive has been jailed after a collision that killed one woman and seriously injured another

The crash took place on Ashlawn Road, Rugby in August 2024 when Alan Charles Parish from Lodge Road, Rugby suffered a medical episode at the wheel.

Doctors had advised him not to drive and to inform the DVLA, advice police say Parish failed to act on.

Parish was sentenced at Birmingham Crown Court on November 12th to four years and six months for causing the death of Margeurite Thomas by dangerous driving and two years three months concurrently for seriously injuring the driver of the car in the crash.

He’s also banned from driving for over seven years.

Detective Constable Francine Brown said: “Our thoughts are with the families affected. They have shown incredible strength, though we recognise that the sentence can never reflect the devastation caused.”
