A man has been jailed after targeting shops in Warwick and Leamington and stealing £1,500 of products.

Warwickshire Police say all of the thefts were caught on shop CCTV and analysed which identified 36-year-old John Williams.

Williams, of no fixed abode, has now been jailed for 26 weeks after admitting 15 counts of theft from a shop at Coventry Magistrates Court on 30 September.

He has also been given a Criminal Behaviour Order, which will last for five years.

This CBO says that Williams is not allowed to attend any Sainsburys or Marks and Spencers in Warwickshire, or the BP Garage at Guys Cliffe.

It also prevents him from entering any shop in Warwickshire with a face covering, mask, or hood, or carrying any bag or box not purchased in the shop.

Police say all 15 thefts took place between 13 July and 22 September 2026.

Twelve of the offences were at a petrol station in Guys Cliffe, one was at a supermarket in Shires Retail Park, and the other two were at supermarkets in Warwick – one on Emscote Road, and the other on Coten End.

Investigating officer PC Latham said “The targeting of supermarkets and other shops in Warwickshire by thieves isn’t something that we take lightly.

“The use of Criminal Behaviour Orders, like the one imposed on Williams, allows us to take more robust action going forward to dissuade shoplifters from continuing their behaviour, including prison sentences, fines, and community orders.”
