Drivers in Kenilworth are being urged to avoid a local ford after water levels have significantly risen overnight.

A post shared online by Kenilworth and Warwick Rural Police has warned that the ford near the Queen & Castle pub and Castle entrance has risen by half a foot in just one hour.

The road is currently blocked, marked with cones, in an attempt to stop drivers from crossing.

“Ladies and gentlemen of Kenilworth, please please please avoid the ford this evening,” the post said.

“It has risen half a foot in the hour I have been here. The road is currently blocked off by the Queen & Castle and Castle entrance. Kindly do not remove the cones or attempt to cross the ford (a new car is an expensive outlay just before Christmas).”

Locals say the ford floods on a regular basis every year and has become a hotspot for drivers attempting to cross despite warnings.

Many such attempts have been captured on camera, with posts often gaining popularity on social media.

Motorists are reminded to take extra caution when approaching floodwater, as crossing it can lead to vehicle damage or potentially life-threatening situations.
