An Iraqi national accused of raping a woman will face trial in the summer after pleading not guilty to the charge and three other alleged offences.

Jowad Haji, who was arrested by officers from Warwickshire Police in February, spoke only to confirm his name and his not guilty pleas during a brief hearing at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old, of Park Street, Coventry, was remanded in custody by Judge Anthony Potter to appear for trial on August 17.

As well as denying a rape charge said to have been committed in Stratford-upon-Avon on a date in January, Haji pleaded not guilty to counts of attempted rape, sexual assault and intentional strangulation relating to the same complainant.
