Gang jailed for violent burglaries in Coventry
Men sentenced for armed break-ins last summer
A group of men have received lengthy prison sentences after they were convicted for their involvement in two armed burglaries in Coventry that took place last summer.
The burglaries, which occurred in Earlsdon and Wyken, involved men forcing their way into homes and threatening residents with machetes.
The Coventry Neighbourhood Crime Team carried out investigations and helped ensure the convictions.
The first burglary took place at around 1am on 23rd July when the gang smashed their way into a home in Earlsdon, threatening the people inside.
They fled the scene after the residents called the police.
Less than an hour after the Earlsdon break-in, a similar crime occurred at another address in Wyken.
During this burglary, the group assaulted a man and demanded money from him before stealing kitchen knives and a games console.
They then escaped using the man's cars.
A swift police response led to the detection of one of the stolen cars, which was in convoy with another stolen vehicle.
Following a pursuit that involved the gang driving the stolen vehicle the wrong way down the A446, armed officers detained them.
During the operation, police recovered machetes and knives as well as retrieving the stolen games console from an address connected to the group.
In court at Warwick Crown Court on Wednesday 15th July, the men were sentenced as follows:
- Junior Yawli, 20, from Parry Road, Coventry, was jailed for 11 years and two months for two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of vehicle theft.
- Mohammed Ramirez, 26, from Kenilworth Road, Birmingham, received a nine-year sentence for two counts of aggravated burglary and two counts of vehicle theft.
- Nathan Evans, 26, from Dudhill Road, Rowley Regis, was sentenced to six years and six months for one count of aggravated burglary and two counts of vehicle theft.
- Sebastian Kandrac, 20, from Normandy Road, Birmingham, who had previously pleaded guilty, will be sentenced later.
Detective Sergeant Jay Aston, who led the investigation, expressed satisfaction with the court's sentencing, stating that it reflects the seriousness of the crimes committed. He commended the dedicated efforts of officers DC Scutariu and DC Hodgkins in conducting the investigation.
