Five men have been found guilty after a planned attack on a man at a caravan site in Nuneaton.

Just after midnight on 9 May last year, several men drove to The Griff caravan site and entered a caravan where a man and woman, both in their 20s, were staying.

The group attacked the man, who fled the caravan, while the woman escaped through a window.

The man was then stabbed multiple times before the attackers left the site.

Police investigations initially resulted in the arrests of four members of the Galbraith family James, 29, Michael, 27, Thomas, 24, and Anthony, 21, who were all charged with attempted murder and making threats to kill and remanded in prison.

However, before the trial started, police received statements saying the victim had been mistaken when identifying the Galbraiths as being responsible.

This led to new charges against James Galbraith, aged 49, and Thomas McDonagh, 54, for conspiring to pervert the course of justice.

After a seven-week trial at Warwick Crown Court, five of the men were found guilty on all their counts.

The judge directed the jury to find James Galbraith, 29, not guilty of attempted murder and making threats to kill.

Detective Chief Inspector Rich Simpkins said: “This has been a complex and comprehensive investigation.

"During the trial, the jury heard how this was a vicious, planned attack, and the victim underwent extensive plastic surgery due to the injuries he suffered.

“I want to be clear that attacks of this nature are never acceptable, and we will do everything we can to identify those responsible and make sure they face the consequences of their actions.“

The men will be sentenced at the same court on an, as yet, unfixed date.
