This Thursday (8th May) marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day, a day of remembrance for the end of the second world war.

VE Day is set to be commemorated in various ways here in Coventry and Warwickshire, there are preparations for street parties in Coventry city centre and a beacon will be lit as a sign of remembrance in Warwickshire, to name a few.

St Patrick's Catholic Primary School in Coventry visited the Commonwealth War Graves exhibition which is touring to multiple destinations this week.

Pupils went along to learn about VE Day and the importance of preserving the memories of those who fought in the war.

Alan, 11, told us why it's important to remember VE Day: "We have to remember the soldiers who died in the war and it's very important that we pass their stories on to the next generation."

Alan's classmate, Bonnie, also aged 11, also shared why it's important to remember the war on VE Day.

Bonnie said: "I think it's important because when we can teach the younger generations about the war and we can pass on stories which we have learnt ourselves on VE Day."
