Two Coventry mums are opening a new specialist facility for families of children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) after seeing growing demand for dedicated support spaces.

The Nest, based in Tile Hill, is due to open next month and will provide a range of facilities designed specifically for SEND children and their families.

One of the directors, Jade McCluskey, said her personal experiences inspired her to create a space that could benefit others.

Jade said: “I have children with additional needs myself, so I know first-hand the challenges families can face when trying to access activities.”

“We’ve come together to create a safe, welcoming space where families can feel happy, comfortable and free from judgement.”

The centre will include a soft play area, a tranquillity room and classroom spaces for children who may need an alternative to mainstream school settings.

During the day, the facility will welcome primary school-aged children and their families, while evening sessions will be available for young adults.

Alongside its sensory-friendly facilities, the centre aims to offer families opportunities to connect with others in the SEND community and access additional support.

Director Lindsay Foskett said: “I can’t wait to see the children enjoying themselves, families connecting with one another, and people knowing they’re not alone.”

The project has been funded through a combination of community fundraising and a grant of almost £20,000 from the National Lottery Fund, helping the founders bring their vision to life.

The Nest is set to open its doors in Tile Hill next month.
