Coventry man jailed for 'sickening' attack
Ryan Hancock attacked a man with a machete in William McKee Close in September 2024
A man from Coventry, who was responsible for what West Midlands Police have called a 'sickening' attack on another man in the city, has been jailed.
Ryan Hancock attacked a man with a machete in William McKee Close in September last year, causing such severe injuries the man lost one of his hands and nearly lost the other.
The man, who injured himself in the attack, chased the man he attacked on an e-bike before waving the machete at him.
Police say the attack was so severe the man needed urgent surgery to try and save both of his hands, which had been hit with the machete when he raised his arms to try and defend himself.
Hancock was identified as responsible and was arrested shortly after the offence.
In interview, Hancock told officers he hadn't meant to seriously injure the man and that he had swung the machete to try and drive him away.
Despite this, CCTV footage showed Hancock chasing his victim and slashing at him several times.
The offence was believed to be a reprisal for a previous robbery in the city committed against Hancock.
Appearing at Warwick Crown Court on 10 July, Hancock, of no fixed address, was jailed for 11 years.
Ten of those years were for the wounding of the man, while there was also a 12-month sentence connected to a violent disorder at a pub in Quorn Way in June last year.
