A Coventry man has been jailed for more than a decade after the rape of a woman in the city.

Edward Kallon attacked the woman at his address in Spon End in September 2024.

Sharing details about the case, West Midlands Police said: "Kallon invited the woman into his house. Kallon told the woman he wanted to have sex with her.

"Despite the woman saying no, Kallon raped her.

"A neighbour inside the property where the rape took place heard what was going on and intervened.

"The neighbour allowed the woman into their own flat for safety and so she could get away from Kallon.

"Kallon, of Shakleton Road, was arrested and interviewed, where he denied all offences, but our rape and serious sexual assault (RASSO) officers were able to build a case against him after the woman bravely came forward to tell her story."

Following a trial at Warwick Crown Court, the 44-year-old has been sentenced to 11 years in prison.

As a force, West Midlands Police say they work hard to ensure that all victims and survivors of sexual abuse, whatever their age, feel able to come forward to tell them about their experiences.

You will be treated with respect, listened to and taken seriously whilst they carry out a robust investigation to ensure perpetrators are brought to justice.

They add they are committed to an approach where safeguarding is always prioritised.

Police say, no matter how long ago the offences took place, officers will always investigate any reports they receive.
