Coventry man jailed for 'frenzied' weapon attack

A man has been jailed for 12 years for carrying out a 'frenzied' attack with a weapon.
29-year-old Hussein Dahir, of Barras Lane, was sentenced at Warwick Crown Court on Tuesday 28th of July. He had been convicted of robbery following a trial on the 3rd of February. A second man was found not guilty following trial.
Dahir and an accomplice carried out the attack on Canal Road on the 29th of June last year, at around 3.20pm. They initially befriended a man before attacking him with a broken bottle. The man needed surgery for deep lacerations to his head and body.
The two men then stole designer clothing and a mobile phone from the victim before fleeing the scene.
The incident was investigated by Coventry’s Neighbourhood Crime Team and Digital Media Team, who gathered forensic and CCTV evidence.
Witnesses including two women saw the attack. They told officers the victim had been punched before being attacked with a broken bottle. CCTV footage showed the victim with his two attackers, who were then seen running along The Stampings with the victim's stolen clothing.
DC Mike Bray, from Coventry CID Robbery Team, said: “This was a frenzied attack and robbery which must have been terrifying for the man. He was left with nasty injuries which required treatment."
