Dedicated Bereavement Suite opens at Coventry's University Hospital for families after baby loss
New space offers privacy and support, funded by UHCW NHS Trust and community efforts

University Hospital in Coventry has opened a dedicated Bereavement Suite, providing specialist support for families experiencing baby loss.
The suite offers a purpose-built space designed to ensure privacy, comfort, and dignity for grieving mothers, partners, and relatives during their difficult time.
Located separately from the Labour Ward, the suite includes high-level soundproofing and a separate entrance, allowing families to gather in a quieter and more private environment.
Developed and funded by University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire (UHCW) NHS Trust, the project also received additional support from UHCW Charity to furnish the rooms and create a welcoming atmosphere.
Chief Nursing Officer Tracey Brigstock emphasised the importance of the suite: “Baby loss is devastating and we know how important it is for families to have a calm, private space where they can be together and receive compassionate support."
Tracey Brigstock added that the suite reflects their commitment to improving care, thanking those who contributed through sharing their experiences and supporting the development.
Families who have personally experienced baby loss were involved in fundraising efforts, contributing items like artwork, sofas, and tea and coffee facilities to enhance the suite.
Special recognition was given to the dedicated project group for their insight and commitment, which were crucial to the completion of this facility.
Jo O’Sullivan, UHCW Charity Director, praised the families and supporters, stating, “The families and supporters behind this appeal have done something truly special. From climbing mountains to running marathons, they have turned their own experiences and determination into practical support for others."
Their generosity helped ensure the suite is homely and welcoming, providing families a place to spend precious time together.
