Coventry City have been crowned winners of the Championship after a 5-1 win against Portsmouth.

The result at the CBS Arena rounds up a remarkable journey for the Sky Blues this year who secured promotion to the Premier League, for the first time in 25 years, last week.

Coventry City took control early as Haji Wright opened the scoring in the 12th minute, and the game shifted further in Coventry’s favour just after half time.

Mason-Clark added a second before a Regan Poole own goal made it three within five minutes of the restart.

Adrian Segecic pulled one back for Portsmouth in the 69th minute, but the response was short-lived.

Mason-Clark’s second goal in the 76th minute, followed by a composed 91st-minute finish from Kesler-Hayden, confirmed a comfortable win for the Sky Blues.

The title triumph marks a significant milestone for the club, following relegation from the Premier League in 2001, after 34 years in the top flight under Gordon Strachan.

Since then, the club has faced financial issues, ownership disputes and ground-sharing dilemmas, forcing them to drop to League Two by 2018.

Lampard's appointment came following the controversial sacking of Mark Robins, who steered Coventry to two promotions and nearly to the Premier League.

Despite initial scepticism over Lampard's appointment, he has guided Coventry through a season-long unbeaten streak and occupying the top spot for most of the campaign.

With promotion secured and the Championship title won, attention now turns to Coventry City’s official celebration event, “WE ARE BACK: LIVE” - a promotion party and trophy parade planned for the May Bank Holiday Monday.

Coventry City Football Club Owner Doug King said: “Days like this are what football is all about - bringing people together to celebrate something truly special.

“We’re proud to give something back to the community and make this a day Coventry will never forget.”
