Two Coventry University alumni have travelled nearly 10,000km from Hong Kong to return to the place where they first met, as they prepare for their wedding in January 2026.

Jamie and Jason Ho, who met while studying at the university, flew back to Coventry to take engagement photographs in the city where their relationship began. Despite having lived in Hong Kong since graduating, the couple said they felt it was important to include the city in their wedding journey.

The pair first crossed paths in 2016 while playing for the university’s badminton team, although they didn’t begin dating until 2019 — just months before graduation.

“It was a no-brainer to come back to Coventry,” said Jason, 30, who studied Physiotherapy. “We have lots of memories here, although it was our first time back since graduating and some of it has changed since we were here.”

Jamie, 27, who studied Interior Architecture, added:

“We knew each other by name only in 2016 as we were in different badminton teams, so we weren’t training at the same time. The chance came in 2019 that we finally got to know each other just a few months before we graduated and the first day to confirm our relationship was our graduation day too.”

The couple made the most of their return, reuniting with former lecturers and friends. One of those was Richard Jones, course director for Interior Architecture and Design, who taught Jamie during her time at the university.

“Jamie was a great student and always came out with creative ideas,” he said. “One project always sticks in my mind where she created a museum where you travelled around the exhibits in large paper boats.

“She contacted me to ask if I would like to have my photo taken with them at the cathedral. I said it would be an honour to and asked if I needed to dress up for the occasion. She said no, so imagine my surprise when I turned up in everyday clothes and Jason and Jamie are dressed up for their forthcoming wedding in a white suit and a full wedding dress looking like models!

“But that's the creative, lovely Jamie I know. Theirs is a genuine love story made in Coventry. I wish them every happiness.”

The couple are due to marry in January 2026 in Hong Kong.
