Boxing programme backing young people in Warwickshire
Cleary's Boxing in Leamington Spa is using sport and mentoring to build confidence and tackle anti-social behaviour
A Warwickshire boxing club is expanding its work with young people after receiving backing for a programme designed to help those at risk of anti-social behaviour and offending.
Cleary's Boxing CIC in Leamington Spa is delivering the Boxing for Change programme, which uses boxing, fitness sessions and one-to-one mentoring to help young people build confidence, discipline and resilience. Participants are also supported to set personal goals and progress into education, training or employment.
The programme has been supported by Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner Philip Seccombe, who recently visited the club to see the work taking place and meet some of its young athletes.
PCC Philip Seccombe said: “It is great to see how Ed and the team at Cleary’s Boxing are committed to both producing future athletes which young people across Warwickshire can aspire to emulate, as well as providing outlets to support those who may benefit from the structure and mentoring which boxing can provide."
The club was founded by former professional boxer Edwin Cleary almost 20 years ago and has grown into one of the region's leading community boxing clubs.
Alongside producing national champions and international representatives, it provides a safe space where people of all ages can improve their fitness, wellbeing and confidence.

Cleary's Boxing says the Boxing for Change programme will strengthen its work with young people by providing positive role models, structured activities and mentoring to help steer them away from crime and anti-social behaviour while raising aspirations for the future.

Our mission is to create opportunities, remove barriers and provide a safe, supportive environment where people can improve their physical health, mental wellbeing and future prospects.
