Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was hit by a car in Blackpool.

Officers say the victim, a 28-year-old man, was struck whilst walking on Condor Grove just before 3am today (27 April).

A VW Passat mounted the pavement before striking him, officers say.

He's currently in hospital in a serious condition.

Officers stopped the car nearby on Waterloo Road not long after the incident.

A 23-year-old man from Coventry and a 22-year-old man from Stoke on Trent have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody.

Det Insp James Wilde, of Blackpool CID, said evidence points to the collision being intentional.

He said: “This shocking incident has left a man with some very serious injuries, and the information we have so far would suggest that this was an intentional act."

An increased police presence in the area is to be expected.

Detectives are now appealing for anyone with information that could assist their investigation to come forward.

Reports can be made by calling 101 quoting log 0097 of April 27th.
