A brand new Job Fest is tackling youth unemployment in Coventry

The Job Shop Fest will be travelling around Coventry this week to help over 16s find employment

Employment opportunities are coming to three separate communities in Coventry this week as part of the Job Shop Fest.

It will focus on the three areas in the city which have the highest youth unemployment figures, these being: Hillfields, Foleshill and Longford.

This is the first time Coventry City Council have ran the Job Shop Fest initiative. It is advertised for anyone over the age of 16 looking for work, volunteering, or training opportunities.

Some of the city’s leading employers, including Severn Trent, E. ON and others, will be on hand with over 1,000 opportunities on offer across the three days.

Coventry Job Fest provides an opportunity to create pathways for residents, especially from under-represented communities to access rewarding careers.

We've been speaking with Peter Jones who is the project manager of the Job Shop Fest across Coventry this week.

Peter said: "We're trying to get people into the job paths and careers that suit their life and suit what their aspirations are and making sure they're up skilled into those roles is key.

"That's something that we're really passionate about at Job Shop and we want to be able to go out into these communities and showcase what we can do to support people.

"It's not about putting out vacancies or jobs that we think people want, it's about helping people do what they feel they want to do, what suits their lifestyle, their aspirations and what interests them. Our job is to then support them through that process.

"That's what Coventry Job Fest is about, it's about offering the opportunities to people who necessarily don't know that we even exist or that those opportunities are available."
