Wildanet scales back Project Gigabit contracts in Cornwall
Rising costs lead to changes in broadband delivery plans
Wildanet has announced it will reduce its involvement in two Project Gigabit contracts in Cornwall due to escalating costs.
These contracts aimed to provide gigabit-capable broadband to difficult-to-reach areas in south west and central Cornwall.
Wildanet informed Building Digital UK about its decision on 12th February 2026.
Despite extensive efforts, the rising costs have made completing the project commercially unviable for Wildanet.
To date, Wildanet has successfully connected around 13,200 premises from an original target of about 19,250 under these contracts.
Wildanet will not deliver broadband to the remaining premises as planned.
The company receives payment only for completed and verified connections, and thus will not receive funding for connections that remain unfinished.
Beyond these contracts, Wildanet has delivered over 50,000 new connections through a mix of private investment and public funding across Cornwall.
The company’s commitment to providing reliable, sustainable broadband in the South West remains intact.
Construction continues on Wildanet’s regional contract for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Wildanet and Building Digital UK are deliberating on potential adjustments to the current plans.
