Update after Penzance Police Station evacuated

It happened after an officer became unwell after being exposed to an unknown substance

Devon and Cornwall Police have issued an update after an evacuation earlier this week.

Penzance Police Station was evacuated on Wednesday 30 July, following reports of a police officer becoming unwell after exposure to an unknown substance.

The ambulance and fire services attended.

The building was evacuated while emergency services dealt with the scene.

The officer was taken to hospital for treatment and later discharged.

A concern for welfare was raised for a woman who had been present. She was later located and found not have been affected.

Following an assessment, the station was reopened.

Update from the police

A police spokesman said: “The officer had a medical episode immediately after an unknown substance was spilt in the area the officer was in.

“As a precaution it was treated as an emergency but later established that the two incidents were fortunately not linked.”
