Central Grill in Calenick Street faces closure order after court hearing
A popular takeaway in Truro has been ordered to close for three months following persistent reports of anti-social behaviour in the area.
Central Grill, located on Calenick Street, received a closure order from Truro Magistrates' Court, effectively shutting down its operations until further notice.
The decision was made during a court hearing on Wednesday 16th September, after authorities cited numerous complaints about the establishment's late-night operations causing significant disruptions to the public.
Sgt. Dave Pearce, Neighbourhood Team Leader, said, "It is important that the local residents, businesses, and visitors to Truro city centre feel safe. This is a positive step to reassure the public that anti-social behaviour in any form will not be tolerated."
The closure order was secured thanks to collaboration between the Truro Neighbourhood Police Team, Cornwall Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Team, and the Force’s legal department. PC Charlotte Grimstead from the Police Team and Steve Lennon from Cornwall Council both played crucial roles in obtaining the order.
Steve Lennon commented, "Cornwall Council Anti-Social Behaviour Team and Devon & Cornwall Police will continue to work in partnership to address any ASB issues within the county of Cornwall. This order being granted shows the strong collaborative approach that we will take to ensure that Cornwall remains a safe place to work, visit, and live."
The order allows only the building owner, emergency services, or statutory agencies to enter the premises. Violating the closure order could lead to fines or imprisonment.
Residents can meet with local police officers at Truro Cathedral on Saturday 19th September or at the Tesco Superstore at Garras Wharf, Truro on Saturday 24th October to discuss any concerns about anti-social behaviour.
