Tributes to 88 year old man who died following Coverack crash

An 88 year old man, who died following a crash involving a tractor and a motorbike near Coverack, has been named by police.

John Tripconey suffered serious injuries in a collision at Trevothen last Wednesday afternoon (2nd April).

He was taken to hospital and passed away the following day (Thursday 3rd April).

A tribute to him has been released by officers, on behalf of his family, who've said:

“John Tripconey. Our Dad and our hero who we loved with all our hearts. Words cannot express our sadness of the loss of this outstanding man.

“John Austin Tripconey, ’Acker’ tragically lost his life on 3rd April 2025.

“He was a loving dad, grandfather, brother, uncle and a friend to so many, who devoted his life to the land and to God.

“He was the most kind, gentle, strong and hardworking family man.

“John often shared treasured memories of the two years he spent while on National Service in Cyprus with The Royal Green Jackets.

“He also spent 27 years as a member of the cliff rescue team based in both Coverack and Porthoustock.

“He was a great community man involved with Coverack Carnival, Christmas Tree and Ponsongath Chapel and many other organisations.

“Always putting others before himself, he was married for 52 years to his loving wife Maureen.

“John leaves children: Jayne-Marie, Lavinia, John, James, Michael and Clare. And grandchildren - Mollie, Jacob, Joshua, Emily and George.”

Ongoing witness appeal

Devon and Cornwall Police are continuing their investigations into the collision - and are asking any witnesses who haven't yet come forward to get in touch with them.

A man in his 60s from Porthleven was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving, not having insurance and drug driving.

He's since been bailed pending further enquiries.
