Large tree blocks road as Storm Bram battered Penzance overnight

Drivers in Penzance are being warned to avoid Alverton Road after a large tree came down overnight during strong winds from Storm Bram.

The road is closed from the mini roundabout at the top of Alexandra Road and from the turning for Castle Horneck Road.

Cornwall Council say work to clear the tree will begin soon.

Penzance Council said on social media: "Following strong winds from Storm Bram, please be aware that a large tree has come down overnight on Alverton Road.

"Cornwall Council are aware of the situation and work will begin soon to start clearing the tree.

"In the meantime, Alverton Road is currently closed from the mini roundabout at the top of Alexandra Road, and from the turning for Castle Horneck Road on the other side."
